Smartphone prices in Pakistan have risen sharply in retail markets, with increases of up to around Rs. 30,000 reported on major brands. The jump has made even basic phones noticeably more expensive for buyers.

What has changed in retail markets

In Karachi retail markets, major brands have raised prices by about Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 30,000. A basic phone with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, previously available for around Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 22,000, is now reportedly selling for Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 40,000 in several Karachi markets. Dealers say sales have weakened as buyers wait, and uncertainty continues in the market.

Why prices are rising

According to a Dawn report, industry representatives say higher chip and memory costs are the main driver of the increase, not a significant rise in taxes. Muhammad Rizwan Irfan, president of the Karachi Electronics Dealers Association, pointed to chip costs, while Mian Abdul Rehman of the Pakistan Mobile Phone Manufacturers Association linked the pressure to RAM and ROM costs driven by AI demand.

What this means for buyers

These are reported retail-market observations from Karachi, not fixed prices for every brand, model or city, and not official brand prices. Prices can vary between shops and cities, so buyers should compare prices before purchasing. The increase also means the cheapest new phones now cost more than before, making price comparison more important.

Note on prices

This report covers retail-market movement only. It does not change the official prices listed in individual phone articles on this site.

How to buy smart during a price jump

Compare prices across shops and cities, since prices can vary between them. Check official brand prices against retail prices. Consider previous-generation models, which may cost less than the newest ones. Confirm PTA approval and warranty before buying. Avoid panic buying — take your time, compare prices and buy only when the deal looks right.
